Mix Trends issue 25 Autumn Winter 2013 14 Out Now!

Mix Trends issue 25 is out now, with four new trends for Autumn Winter 2013/14.

Flint goes back to basics with an organic palette driven by natural pigments; Storm is a fitting title for a trend focussing on unpredictability within climates, terrain and structures. Clash is a reappraisal of the decorative, abducting the least fashionable elements within contemporary interior design; Alpine is a comforting trend combining the charm of a rustic ski chalet with the world’s largest ecosystem and our love for the great outdoors.

All four, very different messages are expressed through essential colour palettes, expressing a strong seasonal message with a strong identity that your customers will instantly identify with.

Glamourland in Berkeley Square

“Glamourland installations are a series of living portraits inside large steel boxes in Berkeley Square. A cross between horticulture, landscape, sculpture and digital technology, the pieces showcase a new technology of ‘plasticising’ living
plants, leaving sections to grow, creating fantastical hybrid forms. An
animation projection has also been designed to complement the jewel-encrusted,
iridescent surfaces seen inside.

Berkeley Square is open to the public every day between 8am-6pm. Although after
dark, Glamourland takes on a new  dimension so do take from the pavement
outside the square too.

On until the 20th January 2012.”

Sneak Preview 2013: Precious trend story

MADE WITH SWAROVSKI® ELEMENTS © Global Color

PRECIOUS

For 2013 we see an increase in the interest of precious metals, ores and gems as a tangible representation of wealth, a much safer commodity than shaky stocks. Luxury is embraced by the East where economies such as China are no longer viewed as emerging cultures.

With global influence Precious is inspired by semi-precious stones. Colours are dense and heavily pigmented where gold inevitably becomes the key metallic shade, but without the ostentation of the nouveau riche.

With regard to materials and textures, highly reflective coating is combined with dense pigments to create Precious. In textiles we will see the use of rough and naturally irregular patterns while in hard surfaces we will see abstract semi precious stones and glass trapped in dark polished resins for hard surfaces.

The offbeat tones of this palette are very versatile and it can be broken down into many colour combinations that can be perfect for many different industries; cosmetics, sportswear apparel, textiles, interiors, packaging etc.

The recently published Mix Trends Spring Summer 2013, issue 24 has further information on this story and full colour reference to its colours, regional colour applications, web tones, samples in texture and materials and many more details.  To illustrate the colours in this story we have used Swarosvki® Elements© crystals in the photography helping us to create beautiful inspirational images that can help you to create your own interpretation of this trend.

The idea behind this creation was to illustrate how designers can work with Mix and incorporate our trends into their work and broaden their creativity and colour understanding. Mix was proud to showcase the trays at Pulse 2011 to reveal the process of design trends from initial inspiration to the final product.

Lego Love!

Mix’s childhood love of LEGO has been well and truly reignited with the bright building blocks popping up all over the place.

From Danish architectural practice KRADS travelling workshop ‘playtime’, to British artist Finn Stone’s LEGO stilettos, our favourite toy has been making a big impact on the design world and has even adorned the curves of Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie at the Nickelodeon’s Kid’s Choice Awards.

Of course LEGO heels and dresses are not the most practical of items but if you want to inject a little nostalgia in to your life LEGO have created a fantastic range of drinking flasks.  We’ll have one in every colour please!
