Last night saw the opening of Ed Templeton’s photography exhibition titled “Drinking The Kool-Aid” at Elms Lesters Painting Rooms, London. Templeton is most popularly known as a professional skateboarder and founder of Toy Machine skateboarding company but his keen eye for capturing everyday moments, along with his character-based drawings and paintings, has seen his popularity grow within creative circles.
The images within the show span three decades and document the photographer’s own life; his friends, colleagues, travels and relationships, all portrayed with a rare photographic intimacy. Unlike many exhibitions which include portraiture, the pieces do not rely on the identities of each figure to carry them and stand alone as refreshingly honest works amongst today’s backdrop of slick, self-aware lifestyle photography.
Open until 17th April, the exhibition is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area and Ed himself will be signing books in the space this weekend. For more details, visit the gallery’s website.
