Quilting Micro-trend Brought To Life By Stephen Wright

Stephen Wright

Opening tonight in Viktok Wynd’s gallery space in east London is Stephen Wright’s first solo show, in which he has included some quilt work. Vibrant and childlike shapes propel this micro-trend, reported on in Mix magazine’s latest issue, into the realm of the offbeat and contemporary; be sure to check out the show before it ends on 1st August.

Matt Luxury set for Autumn Winter 2010/11

In Mix issue 20, we profiled matt black as a micro-trend to watch, along with matt finishes becoming a statement of luxury. We’ve just received news that Super are releasing their flattop sunglasses in a handmade, matt black leather colourway for Autumn Winter 2010/11.

While black is still the sophisticated choice, the other two colours are also stunning; chocolate brown and warm orange. Look out for home accessories taking on the matt black trend this winter too.

Alice Anderson at Riflemaker, London

London’s Riflemaker gallery is currently playing host to Alice Anderson’s latest show, which includes this piece, Synapses, made out of 1000 metres of doll’s hair. An installation that continues into the gallery’s street-level space, the Rapunzel-esque work is also accompanied by a short film, The Night I Became A Doll. The show is open to the public until 24th April, opening from 10am – 6pm Monday til Friday and 12noon – 6pm on Saturdays.

Hair has been a hot micro-trend recently, cited by Mix in our November 2009 newsletter which looked at Anna Schwamborn’s work amongst others. To subscribe to our monthly newsletter, e:mix, please click here.
