Colour in context, November 2013

In Mix Trends issue 25, Autumn Winter 2013/14, Storm is a moody story featuring a palette of smoky greys interspersed by fiery red and orange. In particular Hurricane, a gorgeous smoky green grey, has made a big impact on designers. Mix favourite furniture maker Gareth Batowski, spotted at Tent London, used this as juxtaposition against the pale wood and highlighted with a bright pop of red, all colours featured in the storm palette. It’s also, in the shape of Castle Grey, a popular colour at Farrow & Ball, a suggested shade for exterior use. On the high street, John Lewis has embraced Hurricane for wallpaper and ceramics. So all in all then, a colour to take seriously, not least because of its usefulness as a neutral base for smaller pops of vivid colour.
