Natural material cork has many virtues; it’s elastic, it floats, is light, waterproof, feels warm underfoot and is almost spongy to the touch. Plus it’s ultimately biodegradable and recyclable. However injudicious over use in the past has led to a rather tawdry image for cork. This looks set to change as Discipline re-images cork with the help of designer Pauline Deltour. Silenzio is a bowl that combines light and dark finishes to form a surprisingly graphic effect. Maybe its time for a rethink on the potential of cork.
